Australian-based actor Hugh Keays-Byrne who threatened Mad Max in two different guises, has died aged 73.

Keays-Byrne played Toecutter in the original Mad Max in 1979 and returned to the franchise for Fury Road, in which he played Immortan Joe. He also appeared as Grunchik in the final season of the Jim Henson Company series Farscape and reprised the role for The Peacekeeper Wars miniseries. His other genre work included a role in the 1999 version of Journey to the Centre of the Earth.
