Unfortunately Britain’s horror convention ChillerCon UK has had to move from its proposed January date.

The organisers released the following today:

As per previous communications, although we’ve been quietly working on the convention behind the scenes, like all of you we have been closely monitoring the NHS and UK Government guidelines as they have evolved over the past weeks and months. Sadly, the situation with regard to COVID-19 remains extremely changeable, with restrictions currently increasing rather than the wished-for reduction.

We have done everything we can to try to continue with ChillerCon UK in January but, unfortunately, with the current uptick in infections around the world, we are left with no choice but to postpone the convention once again. We feel it would be irresponsible to push ahead and put anyone’s health at risk, apart from the obvious issues with social distancing, travel etc. Safety has to be the paramount concern for all involved.

We will advise new dates as soon as possible, as we’re currently discussing this with the hotels and will advise plans moving forward for everyone who has already signed up to attend. This is a huge disappointment for all of us, and we know everyone attending was looking forward to finally meeting friends and colleagues in person, hopefully in a safer environment. Sadly, January isn’t that time, but we’re committed to providing a live event when it is safe to do so, and hope to provide a memorable event that will more than make up for the wait.

For those who have booked flights to the UK, you should contact the airline, your insurance provider or your credit card supplier for a refund. For those travelling by train, please contact whichever company you purchased your tickets from or, again, your credit card supplier for a refund.

As previously stated, we have already invested much of the money received in membership fees with third-party services, and have refunded where possible (banquets, coach trips and memberships where applicable). This postponement is going to take some time to sort out, and we will make further announcements once details are confirmed. In the run-up to the convention itself, we will be providing some online programming for Members (Attending or Supporting) via a private area of the site. Full details of these items will be provided in due course, and we hope Members enjoy them in the run-up to the physical event.

In the meantime, the advice remains as per the Public Health England website:

There are three simple actions we must all do to keep on protecting each other

WASH HANDS
Keep washing hands regularly.

COVER FACE
Wear a face covering in enclosed spaces.

MAKE SPACE
Stay at least 2 metres apart – or 1 metre with a face covering or other precautions
If you have coronavirus symptoms:
• a high temperature
• a new, continuous cough
• a loss of, or change to, your sense of smell or taste

Get a test (https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test) and stay at home

Stay safe out there, look after the elderly and infirm and we hope to see you at a time when things are safer and we can enjoy the convention in a more normal manner. We hope you enjoy the online content we provide in the meantime. We appreciate your patience and understanding as the situation evolves and will keep you updated with all developments as they occur.
