Paddy Considine will play King Viserys Targaryen in HBO’s House of the Dragon, its prequel to Game of Thrones.

Chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal, Viserys is a warm, kind and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy. But good men do not necessarily make for great kings.

The show was co-created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal with Miguel Sapochnik co-showrunning alongside Condal. The 10 episode first season was ordered straight to series after HBO considered various options.
