The Red Circle Minis series of novellas aim to bring some of the best of modern Japanese writing to Western audiences, and their sixth book is an SF work by Soji Shimada – one with some issues.

I’d advise looking at it as a historical piece of science fiction, rather than part of the wave of excellent new fiction deriving from China and Japan in modern times.
