Netflix have sufficient confidence in Zack Snyder’s new zombie movie Army of the Dead that they’ve commissioned a prequel movie, as well as an anime tie-in.
Matthias Schweighöfer will direct the prequel, which will focus on his character in the movie, Ludwig Dieter.
“I’m incredibly excited for the opportunity to partner with Netflix again as we expand the Army of the Dead universe with both an international prequel, as well as exploring the visually dynamic world of animation. It’s been a great collaboration and we are thrilled that Netflix sees this as big of an IP as we do,” Snyder commented.
“It has already been a great pleasure to be part of this wonderful ensemble around Zack Snyder – a fascinating project. I am happy that it is now being developed on so many different levels”, Schweighöfer added.
The anime series will be titled Army of the Dead: Las Vegas and will also act as a prequel, centring on Dave Bautista’s character Scott, and explaining the origins of the zombie outbreak. Snyder will direct two of the episodes, and the series will be showrun by Batman: The Dark Knight Returns’ Jay Oliva.
