There are many SFB readers who regard James Cameron’s Aliens as the best in the series – even over Ridley Scott’s claustrophobic original. Now, following up his account of the creation of the first film, JW Rinzler has produced an engrossing and exhaustive tome chronicling the second:

The illustrative material on its own justifies the price, but the text, which doesn’t hesitate to use side panels to wander off along tangents, is well constructed. Alongside fresh interviews, there’s a good use of archive material, and extracts from assorted script versions.
