The latest Charlie Parker novel, The Dirty South, was released last week and earlier in lockdown, Paul Simpson chatted with John Connolly about the background to the book, the pitfalls of writing “historical” fiction, and finding places for new readers to join the party:
it’s very important, I think, to allow entry points into the series and let people feel like, “Well, I don’t have to have read eighteen books or six books” because series readers often are quite purist about it as well and will tell you that You must start at the beginning, if you don’t we’re going to come round to your house and we’re gonna beat you up and we’re going to hold your dog hostage, you will read!
