John Carpenter has confirmed that he will continue to be involved with Blumhouse’s projects, including their new “reboot” of The Thing.

Speaking at the Fantasia online convention, he wouldn’t give away more about the extent of the involvement, nor whether the new film is linked in any way to his 1982 cult horror tale. The film is apparently drawing both on the original John W. Campbell Jr’s story Who Goes There, and the recently released longer version, Frozen Hell.

The full one-hour panel is below, and includes Carpenter’s understanding of the current situation on Escape from New York and Big Trouble in Little China remakes, as well as praise for the next Halloween movie.
