English actor Ben Cross, whose genre credits included Sarek in the 2009 Star Trek reboot, has died aged 72.

Speaking to Sci-Fi Bulletin’s Paul Simpson for the official Star Trek magazine back in 2009, he noted, “Dealing with the adult Spock was a much more mature relationship, and I found the father/son aspect one of the easier things to play.”

Cross was best known for his role in Chariots of Fire, but played various villains including Prince Malagant in First Knight, and was Barnabas Collins in the 1991 remake of Dark Shadows. He’d previously played a vampire in the 1989 TV movie Nightlife. Other genre roles included Paperhouse, Exorcist: The Beginning, Species: The Awakening, Poltergeist : The Legacy, Tales from the Crypt, The Twilight Zone, the 12 Monkeys TV series and the recent Syfy show Pandora, as well as playing Captain Nemo for a 1997 version of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,
