The Thing and Cocoon’s Wilford Brimley has died aged 85.
The veteran American actor was Dr Blair in John Carpenter’s The Thing, and played Ben Luckett in Ron Howard’s Cocoon, as the leader of the elderly people who find the “magic” swimming pool near their retirement home (he was only 50 at the time of shooting). His other genre appearances included the spy thriller Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins, Cocoon: The Return, and the Star Wars TV Movie: Ewoks: The Battle for Endor.
