The Second Doctor BBC Audio The Elysian Blade, by David Bishop, has won the prestigious Sir Julius Vogel Award for Best Dramatic Presentation.
The news was announced at Worldcon in New Zealand on Thursday July 30th 2020.
‘It’s amazing to see this story celebrated at Worldcon,” Bishop said on Facebook. “Frazer Hines was a wonderful reader, and working on The Elysian Blade with Michael Stevens and the team at BBC Audio was a great experience. Everyone involved really helped to bring the story to life.’
The Sir Julius Vogel Awards are New Zealand’s national awards for science fiction, fantasy and horror across all media, named after the eight Prime Minister of New Zealand, who also wrote was is believed to be the country’s first science fiction novel. Published in 1889, Anno Domini 2000 foresees a utopian future world where women held many positions of power. Winners were decided by a vote of the members of SFFANZ, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Association of New Zealand Inc. and of the national convention.
