In April the Doctor Who Appreciation Society announced the return of Tardis magazine. This was one of the original Doctor Who fan magazines, first published in 1975 and taken on by the newly formed Society in 1976. For many years Tardis was one of the leading Doctor Who fan magazines, but changes in fandom and the Doctor Who world in general led to its retirement in 1998 with a one-off return for the 40th anniversary in 2003. Now, Tardis will sit alongside the Society’s other print and online output, including Celestial Toyroom, the longest continuously published Doctor Who magazine in the world.
By bringing Tardis back DWAS is helping address the ongoing demand for print media, produced by fans, for fans. Volume 17 of Tardis is edited by Robbie Dunlop and it is intended to publish three times per year. Each edition will raise funds for a different charity. Issue 1 of the new volume is sold in aid of ‘Mermaids’ a charity supporting gender diverse children, young people and their families.
