Albert Uderzo, the co-creator of Asterix the Gaul, has died aged 92.

Uderzo created the strip with René Goscinny in 1959, and the two continued to tell tales until Goscinny’s death in 1977, at which point Uderzo continued as sole writer and illustrator until 2009. More than 380 million copies of the stories have been sold worldwide, translated into over 100 languages.

New translations of the French originals have been promised by US publisher Papercutz.
