Robert Conrad, star of The Wild Wild West and A Man Called Sloane, has died aged 84.

Conrad was best known for playing James West opposite Ross Martin’s Artemis Gordon in the long running The Wild Wild West, described as “James Bond on horseback”, a role he reprised for two later TV movies. (He was not involved with – and strongly disliked – the Will Smith movie based on the show). Conrad played a more modern spy in the 1979 show A Man Called Sloane and made appearances in Mission: Impossible.
