Renowned visual futurist Syd Mead has died, aged 86.

In addition to Blade Runner and Tron, for which he is best known, the visual concept artist had credits on multiple genre movies including Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Aliens, Timecop, Mission: Impossible III, Elysium and Tomorrowland. His most recent credit was for Blade Runner 2049, which won him the 2018 Art Directors Guild Award for Best Fantasy Film. He was due to receive the William Menzies Award from the ADG at a ceremony in February.
