A Game of Thrones prequel has been given the green light – but it’s not the one everyone was expecting.
HBO has turned down the pilot already shot, and has instead given a 10 episode series order to House of the Dragon. The prequel focuses on House Targaryen and was created by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin and Colony’s Ryan Condal. It’s based on Martin’s book Fire & Blood; Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal will partner as showrunners and will also serve as executive producers along with George R.R. Martin and Vince Gerardis.
“The Game of Thrones universe is so rich with stories,” HBO programming president Casey Bloys explained. “We look forward to exploring the origins of House Targaryen and the earlier days of Westeros along with Miguel, Ryan and George.”
