British character actor Clive Swift has died aged 82.
One of the few actors to appear in both 20th and 21st century versions of Doctor Who – with Colin Baker in Eric Saward’s Revelation of the Daleks, and with David Tennant in Voyage of the Damned – Swift was probably best known for his role in the comedy Keeping Up Appearances. His genre work included John Boorman’s Excalibur, horror movies Death Line and Alfred Hitchcock’s Frenzy, the BBC anthology series Dead of Night, the SF series 1990, and the first BBC Ghost Story, The Stalls of Barchester.
