Ripper Street and The Imitation Game’s Jack Bannon has been cast as a young Alfred Pennyworth for Bruno Heller’s new series about the early life of Batman’s butler.
The show follows Pennyworth, a former British SAS soldier in his 20s, who forms a security company and goes to work with a young billionaire Thomas Wayne, who is not yet Bruce’s father, in 1960s London. Boyishly handsome, cheerful, charming, and clever Alfred is perceived as Honest, open-faced and witty, and people would never take him for an SAS killer. He doesn’t yet know how to reconcile the kind-hearted boy he used to be with the cold, calculated killer he’s been forced to become. “He’s a man on the make, who doesn’t know what to make of himself yet.”
Danny Cannon will direct the pilot at Leavesden Studios starting on October 22.
