Hear the sounds of the final frontier this June, as the London Concert Orchestra pairs the iconic scores of science fiction with a full pyrotechnic display of lasers, lights and indoor fireworks.

Space Spectacular at the Royal Albert Hall returns for a third year, bringing together legendary sci-fi scores from Star Wars to 2001: A Space Odyssey and exploring their common strands – space opera bombast, electronic innovations, and the sounds of the great beyond.

New for 2019, this journey takes in the bleak and avant-garde music of Alien, its suspenseful counterpart in Predator, and the Academy-Award-winning original music of 2013’s Gravity. They join a collection of cherished scores, from John Williams to Richard Strauss, Superman to E.T., Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Thunderbirds and many more.

Lucy Noble, Artistic Director at the Royal Albert Hall, said: “Sci-fi is inextricably linked to its music, from the disembodied wailing of the Theremin, to vast symphonic storytelling that captures the terror and wonder of the unknown. Pairing our award-winning lighting design with pyrotechnics, lasers, and a full orchestra flings these scores off the page and into the imagination.

“This unique show, starring one of the world’s greatest orchestras, is a fun-filled extravaganza that will delight anyone who loves science fiction – and the music it has inspired.”

Other treats on offer are selections from Jerry Goldsmith’s Star Trek scores, Holst’s The Planets, and a special suite bringing together the best of Star Wars: six unforgettable pieces from the incomparable John Williams – arguably the greatest film composer of all time, and the winner of five Academy Awards.
