Actress Zienia Merton, who played Sandra Benes in Space: 1999, has died aged 72.
In addition to her role in both seasons of the Andersons live action show, she appeared in the fourth Doctor Who story, Marco Polo, and in the Sarah Jane Adventures story, The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith. One of her first roles was in the Children’s Film Foundation film series Masters of Venus, and one of her most recent in Wizards vs Aliens.

Very sad and most unexpected and unwelcome news.
I had the pleasure of meeting Zienia in 1999 at the Breakaway convention. She was a joy to meet and was very kind and gracioys to the fans.
I am saddened that the possibility of meeting her a second time has been taken away.
Rest in peace, Zienia. Thanks for bringing some magic and wonder into the life a 12-year old boy way back in 1975-76 (Me).
You will be missed, but never forgotten.
No words could ever give meaning to how sorfull I feel now with this wonderful person passing.
I have been a fan sence I was seven when I watched her back in the 70s.
Please know how sorry I am for her family and friends as she was still in my mind a young woman.
May she find true greatness in the life of beyond 😢
Descanse en paz Sandra Benes, has seguido el viaje que emprendió la tripulación de Alfanos hacia el mundo permanente y eterno, probablemente ya has logrado ver al Comandante Koenig, a Víctor el Científico, al Médico de la Base que murió cuando la serie Cosmos 1999, apenas se daba a conocer y los demás Alfanos -Heroes todos- Buen Viaje Zienia Merton, solo te has adelantado en el trayecto que debemos hacer todos. Dios te reciba en su morada eterna.

I loved Space:1999 and you were such an important part of it.
