Batwoman is turning up in this season’s big crossover event in the Berlanti-verse on the CW… but Deadline is now reporting that she may get her own series next year.

The Vampire Diaries’ Caroline Dries is preparing a version in which armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a saviour, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

The version of Batwoman featured was introduced in 2006 as a Jewish lesbian, although she’ll by no means be the first gay lead character in a Berlanti-verse series.
