Nearly forty years after the first four episodes of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy were rerecorded and released as an LP, the BBC is releasing the first five series on vinyl.

Pre-orders for this limited run of the first volume go live today, 25th May, known as ‘Towel Day’ by fans of the Douglas Adams series.

The first volume – Primary Phase – is out on 24th August 2018 and features a sleeve note by author Neil Gaiman, who will also sign the 500 exclusive artwork prints. The collectable volumes will also feature specially commissioned artwork and sleeve notes and 180g heavyweight red vinyl. “It makes me strangely happy that the original radio show is going to be available on vinyl,” said Gaiman, who wrote Don’t Panic, one of the first books about the series.

Subsequent volumes will be released over the course of the next year and each will have 500 limited edition signed artwork print editions by its own guest sleeve note author. Each volume will also include a ‘Making of’ essay by Jem Roberts, author of The Frood: The Authorised and Very Official History of Douglas Adams & The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

  1. Both of your links at the end of the article go to the collector’s edition. If there’s actually a separate link for the standard edition, you may wish to fix that.
