The science fiction and fantasy genre was recognised at the 90th Academy Awards, with the Best Movie going to Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water.

The fantasy movie, starring Sally Hawkins and Doug Jones, also won Best Director, as well as Best Production Design (Paul D. Austerberry, Jeffrey A. Melvin, Shane Vieau) and Best Score (by Alexandre Desplat).

Jordan Peele’s Get Out won Best Original Screenplay and Roger Deakins won an Oscar (on his 14th nomination) for Cinematography on Blade Runner 2049, which also took Best Visual Effects (John Nelson, Paul Lambert, Richard R. Hoover, Gerd Nefzer)
