Director Lewis Gilbert, best known to genre fans for his three James Bond movies You Only Live Twice, its remake The Spy Who Loved Me, and Moonraker, has died aged 97.
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed Swedish reports that the director passed away on February 23rd. In addition to his contribution to 007, Gilbert helmed famed British movies including Alfie, Educating Rita and Reach for the Sky. After a short career as a child actor, he turned to the other side of the camera, working on Jamaica Inn with Hitchcock before the Second World War.
