Joss Whedon will no longer be charting the big screen adventures of Batgirl.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that the Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator has exited the project after a year, after failing to come up with a story for Barbara Gordon. “Batgirl is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realize I really didn’t have a story,” Whedon told THR in a statement, adding praise for Geoff Johns and Toby Emmerich for their welcome and assistance. It’s unclear at present whether Warner Bros. will continue with the project.
