Michael Green and Bryan Fuller have stepped down as showrunners for Starz’ adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods.

No official reason has been given for the departure, although Deadline has speculated that a request for a budget cut may be behind it, while The Hollywood Reporter originally suggested that the show might be running behind schedule. Fuller departed from Star Trek: Discovery to focus on American Gods, and is now involved with the reboot of Amazing Stories. Michael Green is now working on a sequel to Murder on the Orient Express.

Reports suggest that many of the second season scripts have already been written, but there’s still no confirmation of the episode count or who will step in to run the show.
