The shortlist for the 2018 BBC Audio Drama Awards has been published, and there is plenty of genre representation.
Al Smith’s Dangerous Visions: Culture and Matthew Graham’s Jayne Lake are two of the six nominees for Best Original Audio Drama (Single Play).
Val McDermid’s Dangerous Visions: Resistance and Mac Rogers Lifeafter compete for Best Audio Drama (Series or Serial).
The adaptations of A Clockwork Orange, Isaac Asimov’s I Robot, The Unquenchable Thirst of Dracula, and Kafka’s Metamorphosis are up for Best Audio Drama (Adaptation).
John Hurt is nominated for his performance in Chapter 1 of Big Finish’s The Invisible Man as Best Actor in an Audio Drama.
Samuel James is up for Best Supporting Actor/Actress in an Audio Drama for his role in the BBC’s version of War of the Worlds.
Georgie Morrell competes for Best Debut Performance in an Audio Drama for Jayne Lake.
Best Use of Sound in an Audio Drama has four genre nominees: I Robot, Metamorphosis, Lifeafter, and War of the Worlds.
And The Prisoner – I Met a Man Today is up for Best Online or Podcast Audio Drama.
The finalists will be announced on Thursday 4 January 2018, and the winners at a ceremony in the Radio Theatre at BBC Broadcasting House, London on the evening of Sunday 28 January 2018.
