Renowned screen composer Dudley Simpson has passed away, aged 95.
The news was confirmed by one of his successors as Doctor Who composer, Mark Ayres.
The Australian composer studied at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and later became Principal Conductor at the Royal Opera House in London. He worked on Doctor Who from Planet of Giants for William Hartnell’s Doctor in 1964 through to The Horns of Nimon in 1980, appearing on screen as the music hall conductor in 1977’s The Talons of Weng-Chiang. He also penned the music for four seasons of Blake’s 7, and composed multiple other themes, including The Tomorrow People, and incidental music for shows including Out of the Unknown.
