Roy Dotrice, known best to genre fans as Father in the 1980s version of Beauty and the Beast, has died at the age of 94.

The veteran British character actor had an acclaimed stage career in addition to his many TV and film roles – which included Charles Dickens in Dickens of London. His other genre roles included Commissioner Simmonds in Space: 1999, Wesley’s father in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Zeus in Hercules, The Legendary Journeys. He also narrated the audiobooks for George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Fire and Ice sequence, appearing as Wisdom Hallyne the Pyromancer in the TV version, Game of Thrones.
