Larry Niven’s Ringworld is among the high profile genre properties being developed by Amazon Studios.

Other projects include Lazarus, based on Greg Rucka and Michael Lark’s comic book, and Snow Crash, from the novel by Neal Stephenson.

The original Ringworld novel was published in 1970, and Niven published four sequels as well as co-writing three prequels. The first book follows Louis Gridley Wu, who is celebrating his 200th birthday in 2850AD and accepts an offer to investigate the mysterious Ringworld. Previous attempts to film the story have not gone beyond the early development stage.

Lazarus follows the adventures of Fortune Carlyle, the “Lazarus”, or chosen warrior, for one of the families that rule Earth in a dystopian future. The comicbook first appeared in 2013, and was originally set to be produced by Legendary Television.

Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash was first published in 1992 and was hailed as one of the best American novels since 1923 by Time magazine. Set in a future Los Angeles, it follows a pizza deliverer who is a warrior prince within the Metaverse where he combats a computer virus that’s striking down hackers.
