Veteran British character actor Robert Hardy has died aged 91.

Hardy studied at university under C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien before becoming a classical actor.

Although best known for his portrayals of Churchill and Siegfried Farnon on All Creatures Great and Small, he appeared in various genre pieces across his career, including Gawain and the Green Knight, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (the 1994 version), Gulliver’s Travels, The 10th Kingdom and in recent years, as Cornelius Fudge in the Harry Potter films.
