Sci-Fi Bulletin: Exploring the Universes of SF, Fantasy, Horror and Spy-fi!

The links between Star Trek old and new continue to be forged, with news that Jonathan Frakes will be helming an episode of CBS All Access/Netflix’s new Star Trek show.

Frakes played Will Riker on Star Trek: The Next Generation, and directed two of the franchise’s movies – the highly acclaimed First Contact, and the less well received Insurrection – as well as multiple episodes of the various series. His other directing gigs include the Thunderbirds movie and episodes of The Librarians.

Entertainment Weekly broke the news that he would be on the Toronto set of Discovery. “He’s a fantastic guy and great director,” writer-producer Gretchen J. Berg told the site.
