James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence will be starring in the cinematic X-Men’s second go at the Dark Phoenix saga.

Nicholas Hoult, Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, and Kodi Smit-McPhee will also be appearing in the movie, according to the report at Deadline, with production set to begin in Montreal this November. Jessica Chastain is in discussions to play the “villain” – Shi’ar Empress Lilandra. Simon Kinberg will be making his directorial debut with the movie.

The Dark Phoenix saga is regarded as one of the highpoints of the X-Men run by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, even if many feel its impact has been diluted by the frequent returns of supposedly dead characters. Elements of the film turned up in X-Men: The Last Stand, a movie taken out of continuity by the events of Days of Future Past.
