Jared Martin, who was the lead in the 1977 series Fantastic Journey and in the TV version of War of the Worlds, has died aged 75.

Martin was Brian de Palma’s room mate at college and followed him to Hollywood. His early films included Westworld and he appeared in episodes of many genre shows including The Incredible Hulk, Logan’s Run, Tales of the Gold Monkey, Knight Rider, Airwolf and The Six Million Dollar Man. He was the lead character, the mysterious Varian, in the 1977 Fantastic Journey (a short lived series set in the Bermuda Triangle), and played Dr Harrison Blackwood in War of the Worlds, providing the narration for the first year.
