HBO has given a series order to the adaptation of Matt Ruff’s novel Lovecraft Country.

Lovecraft Country follows 25-year-old Atticus Black, who joins up with his childhood friend Letitia and his Uncle George to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America to find his missing father. This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and malevolent spirits. The pilot will be written by Misha Green and produced by Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and Bad Robot, with a stated intention to create an “anthological horro series” that will  “reclaim genre storytelling from the African-American perspective”.

“When I first read Lovecraft Country I knew it had the potential to be unlike anything else on television,” Green told Deadline. “Jordan, JJ, Bad Robot, Warner Bros and HBO are all in the business of pushing the limits when it comes to storytelling, and I am beyond thrilled to be working with them on this project.”
