Renowned American actor Powers Boothe has died aged 68.

Boothe was best known for playing villains – both real life ones such as Jim Jones, for which he received an Emmy, and the fictional Senator Roark in Sin City or Gideon Malick in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His career began on stage before transitioning to film and TV, and he was acclaimed for his part as Cy Tolliver in the Western series Deadwood and Noah Daniels on 24. One of his less well remembered roles was voicing Lex Luthor for the Superman animated movie Brainiac Attacks.
