Moray Watson, who appeared as Peter Marsh in the first Quatermass TV series and Sir Robert Muir in Doctor Who’s Black Orchid as well as many other genre shows, has died aged 88.
The role in The Quatermass Experiment was one of Watson’s first TV appearances in 1953 and he became a stalwart of British film and TV, guest starring in The Saint and The Avengers alongside a regular role in the BBC’s soap Compact. He played Lord Collingford in the second season of Catweazle, and Angus Kinloch in the Michael Jayston-starring series of Quiller, before playing a spymaster in the opening episode of Return of the Saint. In the same year he appeared in Doctor Who, he also guested in Tales of the Unexpected, and a few years later appeared on Star Cops.
He had regular roles in many non-genre shows including Rumpole of the Bailey and The Darling Buds of May.
His autobiography, Looking Back and Dropping Names, was published last year.
