The Buffy the Vampire Slayer universe will continue in prose form.

Simon & Schuster, who published dozens of tie-in novels to the cult series, have announced that their Simon Pulse line will be bringing out new stories in the Buffyverse from autumn 2018, ten years after Kirsten Beyer penned what was believed to be the final story, One Thing or Your Mother.

According to the report at Entertainment Weekly Kiersten White’s series, which will be called Slayer, “will feature a brand new slayer from the group of potentials that Willow used her Wicca skills to awaken in the show’s final episode.”

“We have always had a special affection for Buffy at Simon Pulse, as evidenced by our long publishing history with the brand,” Liesa Abrams, vice president and editorial director of Simon Pulse told EW. “Kiersten White, whose work we deeply admire, is the perfect author to write an original series set in the Buffyverse. We couldn’t be more excited to have Kiersten on board to bring her skill and passion for Buffy together with one of the most influential properties in popular culture.”

The Watcher’s Guide, the indispensable guide to the series, is getting an update and reprint as Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Twenty Years of Slaying to mark the show’s two decades this October.

This will be the third set of sequels to the finale: Nancy Holder’s novel Queen of the Slayers suggested one possible future; the official Season Eight and onwards comics have charted a different path. It’s unknown at present whether the new novels will tie in with the Joss Whedon-sanctioned comics.
