The long-gestating remake of John Carpenter’s Escape from New York will be directed by Robert Rodriguez.
According to Deadline, the From Dusk Till Dawn director will be charting the adventures of Snake Plissken for the new version, which will be produced by Twentieth Century Fox. They acquired the rights in 2015, and plan to create a new franchise based on the property.
The original 1981 movie spawned a belated remake/sequel in 1996’s Escape from LA. The character of Snake Plissken has recently been appearing in comic books from BOOM! studios.
