35 years ago, in 1982, the very first Fighting Fantasy Gamebook, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone, was published.
3 years ago, in 2014, following a successful Kickstarter campaign, YOU ARE THE HERO – A History of Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks was published, written by Jonathan Green.
Now Green is working on a sequel. Since he was not able to get in touch with every artist or writer before YOU ARE THE HERO had to go to the printers, and since the publication of the book, some have got in touch with him, while mutual acquaintances have put him in touch with others. For YOU ARE THE HERO Part 2, he will conduct interviews with these creators, so that he can share their experiences of working on the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks with other fans of the series.
There have also been further developments in the worlds of Fighting Fantasy, Advanced Fighting Fantasy and Steve Jackson’s Sorcery! that are worth recording including the publication of the first FF comic, Ian Livingstone’s FREEWAY FIGHTER, and the forthcoming FF graphic novel, Steve Jackson’s The Trolltooth Wars. And then there are topics, such as Fighting Fantasy’s broadcasting history, which were not covered in the original YOU ARE THE HERO.
Green is raising funds for this via Kickstarter. More details can be found on the Kickstarter page here. (Since this page was prepared, the Kickstarter has exceeded target and is now heading towards various stretch goals including a brand new cover painting by legendary artist Chris Achilleos.)
