Patrick Ness’ movie based on his best selling novel A Monster Calls won nine of the twelve categories it was nominated for at the Goya Awards, given by the Spanish Film Academy, held on February 4.
J.A. Bayona was hailed as Best Director, and the movie won Best Original Score, Best Production Design, Best Photography, Best Editing, Best Artistic Director, Best Makeup and Hair, Best Sound and Best Special Effects. Bayona dedicated his award to all cancer sufferers and to his father, who taught him the transformative power of culture.
