Van Williams, who played masked crimefighter the Green Hornet on TV in the 1960s, has died aged 82.
His wife confirmed that he passed away from kidney failure on November 29. He was best known for his role in The Green Hornet, based on a radio serial of the 1930s, about a masked detective who fought crime after his father was framed for a crime and died in jail. The TV version lasted one season of 26 episodes, and co-starred Bruce Lee as Kato; the characters crossed over with Adam West and Burt Ward’s Batman series.
Williams retired from acting in 1982 and was part of the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Search and Rescue team. He made a cameo appearance in the 1993 Bruce Lee biopic, but was not involved with the reboot of the series by Seth Rogen in 2011.
