Ron Thornton, whose visual effects work won him an Emmy for Babylon 5’s pilot, has died aged 59.
Born in London, Thornton’s career began making miniatures for Doctor Who and Blake’s 7 before moving to the States and working on movies including Commando, Critters and Spaceballs.
In the 1990s he worked on Babylon 5 and three Star Trek shows – Deep Space 9, Voyager and Enterprise. He was credited by many with showing the potential of CGI on the small screen.
