knight-riderMichael Knight and KITT are returning yet again, in a fresh reboot of the 1980s classic series.

Digital network Machinima is teaming with Star Trek Beyond’s Justin Lin on the new version which is set to launch next year. “Knight Rider is an iconic franchise whose concepts of AI and autonomous vehicles were science fiction in the 1980s and are now science fact,” Machinima CEO Chad Gutstein said. “Justin is one of the leading storytellers of his generation and we couldn’t be more excited to work with him on re-invigorating Knight Rider for a new generation of fans.

Machinima’s other reboots include Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome, Mortal Kombat: Legacy and Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn.

Knight Rider ran from 1982-1986 with David Hasselhoff as Knight; the series spawned a sequel movie (Knight Rider 2000) as well as two sequels – Team Knight Rider and a 2008 reboot that lasted one season. Its most recent incarnation is as a comic book from IDW and Lion’s Forge, written by The Librarians’ Geoff Thorne.
