In one of the least-surprising announcements this year, Netflix has confirmed they are renewing Stranger Things for a second season.
The nine new episodes will air in 2017 with writers-creators Matt and Ross Duffer returning to the show, alongside fellow executive producers Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen. At the recent TCAs, Matt Duffer noted, “We want [season 1] to feel like a big movie. But there’s a bigger mythology, and there’s a lot of dangling threads at the end. We could explore it if Netflix wanted to continue.”
The Duffers also spoke to Variety about their plans for the new season back in July.
