Prolific British TV director Tom Clegg, who helmed episodes of Space: 1999, has died aged 81.
Clegg directed the two-part story Bringers of Wonder, regarded as one of the high points of Space: 1999’s uneven second season, as well as Journey to Where, Devil’s Planet and the final episode, The Dorcons. He became best known for the Sharpe TV movies, but had many credits on the cop shows of the 1970s including The Sweeney – for which he directed the original pilot film, Regan as well as the final appearance of the cast in Sweeney 2!; The Professionals, and Return of the Saint.
He returned to the fantasy genre with two episodes of Hammer House of Horror and then later in life for the 2000 series The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne, onwhich he directed four episodes.
