At a panel celebrating Star Trek, executive producer Bryan Fuller announced that the new series will be entitled Star Trek Discovery.
“The new series has to remind audiences the message of Star Trek: continuing to push boundaries,” Fuller said, adding. “We do have to celebrate a progression of our species because right now we need a little help.” The show will be set in the Prime timeline, not the Kelvinverse of the movies, and will be abbreviated to DSC.
David Semel will direct the pilot, which will air on CBS in the US, CBC in Canada, and on Netflix in the rest of the world. A brief CGI video showing the new ship – registration NCC 1031 – was also shown, although this is not the final footage!
