Noel Neill, who played Lois Lane opposite two incarnations of Superman, has died aged 95.
Neill first played the intrepid reporter against Kirk Alyn’s Clark Kent/Superman in the 1948 serial and again in 1950’s Atom Man vs Superman. She then went on to reprise the role with George Reeves for the long running TV series The Adventures of Superman. She returned for the 1978 Christopher Reeve movie as Lois’ mother (seen on the train as Superboy races past), and then as Alexis in the 1991 Gerard Christopher Superboy TV show. She also played Gertrude Vanderworth in Brandon Routh’s 2006 movie Superman Returns.
Prior to being cast as Lois, Neill appeared in various Hollywood productions, but she basically retired from acting after the end of The Adventures of Superman in 1958.
Gwenda Bond, currently penning Lois Lane novels, tweeted: “Lovelove the tradition of Loises passing the torch over the years–and the significance of Neill’s portrayal is hard to overstate. RIP.”
My condolences
