Wicker Treewicker_man_ver2_xlgRobin Hardy, best known for directing The Wicker Man, has died aged 86.

Robin St. Clair Rimington Hardy was born in England, but studied and trained in Paris, Canada and the United States before returning to the UK in 1960. He formed a company with writer Anthony Shaffer, Hardy Shaffer Ferguson Avery, which led to the creation of The Wicker Man in 1973, starring Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee – who regarded it as his finest work. He dealt with some of the same things in his 2006 novel Cowboys for Christ, which he filmed as The Wicker Tree in 2011. He was not involved with the remake of The Wicker Man (“I couldn’t believe it was as bad as it was”, he told MungBeing Magazine).
