In the wake of the Orlando tragedy, Class showrunner Patrick Ness was repeatedly asked if the teen drama would feature a gay character.
“Will a lead character with a boyfriend who he kisses & sleeps with & loves do?” he tweeted on June 13. “We were keeping that secret, but today that secret doesn’t seem very important. #lovewins”
The Doctor Who spin-off, set at Coal Hill School, is currently shooting for an autumn transmission on BBC Three and BBC One.
